Perito Moreno

Majestic Patagonian Glacier

Discover one of the world’s few glaciers that is still growing. A natural wonder not to be missed on your trip to Argentina.

About the Perito Moreno Glacier

Located in Los Glaciares National Park in Argentine Patagonia, the Perito Moreno is one of the world’s most impressive and accessible glaciers.

A unique natural phenomenon

Unlike most of the world’s glaciers, which are retreating due to climate change, the Perito Moreno maintains a state of equilibrium, advancing at a rate of around 2 metres a day.

This spectacular glacier covers an area of 250 km², with a front 5 km wide. Its height above lake level is 74 meters, but its total depth is estimated at around 170 meters.

The glacier’s name honors Francisco Moreno, an Argentine explorer and scientist who played a crucial role in defending Argentina’s territorial interests against Chile in the 19th century.
